ABOve2000 cuts out the waiting...
Why wait longer than you need for images to transmit - Why complicate encryption when ABOve2000 deals with both compression and encryption seamlessly - and why congest networks with excessive data volumes, when its avoidable. Using Cimar's embedded compression technology, you can send and receive images faster - and be kind to your network....
ABOve2000 Lossless compression and encryption technology sits at the heart of our online service. It ensures that clinical images transmit faster, securely, (and here's the clever bit) - you don't have to install software to use it.
So what is ABOve2000 exactly? And why does its application in the field of medical images have such a profound impact of the radiology Industry.
In order to make a file smaller (compressed) and therefore send it faster, logic dictates that you must take something out to achieve this. For text based files, simple algorithms compact written logic – in image or photographic files, this poses real problems if the integrity of minute detail is to be retained.
And of course, in Radiology this is critical, since lost pixels (component parts of an image) can render a diagnosis “unsafe” if the diagnosed image is in anyway diminished from its original parent. In computer science, the fundamental information-bearing unit is the ‘bit’, i.e. a binary digit with a value of either 1 or 0. The holy grail of computed data compression is therefore to find a way to encode the contents of digital files using as few bits as possible whilst maintaining absolute integrity of the files contents when de-compressed.

In a nutshell, ABOve2000 out performs the most efficient forms of data compression currently available and raises the bar on what can be mathematically achieved. It is a high performance patented technique that, unlike its peer technologies, relies on remarkably simple logic. As a result, it is faster and more efficient at compressing than other methodologies (that rely on more laborious mathematical transformations which are harder to compute).
When tailored for radiological use, our technology has three overwhelming advantages.
- The first is that it compresses data ‘losslessly’, and better than other techniques. This means that the decompressed files contain exactly the same information as the originals that were transmitted. Losslessness is an absolute prerequisite for radiologists. Other technologies such as JPG/LS are also lossless , but ABOve2000 is by far the most efficient (faster) and achieves the highest lossless compression ratio (more efficient).
- The second hugely significant advantage of ABOve2000 is its inherent ability to retain structured data in a queryable format (i.e. DICOM meta tags) . Why is this important? Well, it means file content can be searched and analysed by computer systems, even when the images are completely compressed. i.e. Much faster DICOM Query, search, retrieval and file movement across networks.
- Lastly and perhaps the most crucial advantage of ABO from the perspective of hospitals and radiologists is that it allows compression and AES 256bit encryption to be processed on ANY PC, anywhere, without having to install software to send images. This means there is nothing for IT to maintain, anyone can use it, and thanks to its "lite" technical footprint and simple algorithm, it uses significantly less computer resources to process images. This means it not only reduces images to smaller sizes than other compacting technology, but it does so much faster - and encrypts everything while doing so.
By overcoming these barriers, ABO enables radiologists anywhere to receive and access perfect medical images without dedicated and expensive line connections or the interminable waiting... ABOve2000 promises to create a new and truly open market for radiology outsourcing, accelerating the speed of image movement everywhere.
